It is a history fact that Bari has always been a crossroads for different cultures.
Folk tales point out that no one is a stranger in Bari.
#weareinlibertà is an urban itinerary into Libertà district – the melting-pot area of Bari – led by boys and girls who arrived here from different continents.
As they narrate the city from their own perspective, #weareinlibertà tour guides share a borderless journey around their dreams, histories and countries.
This non-profit project evolved from a joint cooperation with the Penny Wirton free Italian language School for immigrants in Bari opened in 2016 right in Libertà district thanks to the will of a group of volunteers, teachers and other professionals committed to promoting social inclusion and active citizenship.
All together we created educational modules, in-class training and joint-programming initiatives: this is our way of enforcing connections and building a community in Bari.
The name #weareinlibertà is not casual, it is a way to open ourselves up to otherness, to share a different idea of what the job of a tour guide should be, to walk along those paths of the city that are out of the touristic spotlight but have as much to tell even to its own citizens. It is a search for contamination beyond any boundary.
#weareinlibertà is much more than just an interesting itinerary for both citizens and tourists, it is an enriching cultural and educational training for schools, tour operators and everyone involved in conscious tourism.
